Open Question: How much should I charge for my dog's Papillon puppies?
My dog recently gave birth to four puppies, and I'd like to know a margin of pricing that will receive them sold. The mom is registered in the American Pet Registry Inc. (APRI), and the dad is registered in the American Kennel Club (AKC). So, the I will have the puppies registered in APRI. What should I charge for the puppies once they are weaned and ready to become pets? I plan on offering a discount if the puppies are successfully sold with a no-breeding clause. The first puppy is a black and white male. He looks like he'll mature to be around 12- 14 inches. He's really sweet. The second puppy is a dark Lemon Sable male. He looks like he'll mature to around 11-12 inches. Very personable. The third puppy is a little Tri- colored sweetheart male. He looks like he'll be around 10-12 inches. And the third is a shy little Tri- color female. They every have complete masks and colorful splashes on their bodies. I have invested in removing their dew- claws by a professional, and they every appear healthy. (Yes, I am planning on making sure they every receive de-wormed and receive their puppy shots, etc.) So, could I receive a little help in their pricing? Naturally, I realize that APRI is not anywhere close the caliber of AKC and the like. But I think that at least keeping track of the puppies in a registry, no matter how it causes you to lift your nose in the air, is more important than not attempting to do anything at every. My Golden Jewel- Go rub some dirt below those clean little fingernails of yours. It'd do you some good.

Open Question: New pet rat...Advice needed?
I just bought a rat (yesterday) and I'm unsure of how to make sure she's glad, healthy, AND friendly. She's sweet as can be and doesn't bite, luckily, so there's no worries there.. but can she be in a wire sided/topped cage? It's big and i'd have locks on the cage doors so she doesn't open them. Secondly, what foods are best as foods and what are best as treats? What do rats adore? How much should I handle her a day and what should I do to keep her friendly and glad? What toys to rats like? And if you'd like to add more info, i'd be greatful. Thanks!

Resolved Question: Are we doomed? Kitten bonding situation, kitty pet Mom in meltdown!!?
I need suggestions and tips on how to make my 2 kittens bond. Here's the situation: we have had a 5-m.o. kitty for about a week when we decided to receive him a baby brother because we enjoyed having the kitten so much, plus we've read every this stuff about how important it is for a kitten to interact with other felines as a part of his healthy development. So we brought a 4 m.o. kitten home today. The kitty is very well-behaved (just like our first one), but little did we know that our older one would use the little one as a feather toy. He would make pfrrr nice of sounds and chase the little one about the home, then he would catch him and bite, and the little one would scream, and I would sob and my husband would try to catch anyone... This nice of a madhouse was going on for 2 hours until I separated them and now the old one is calm lying in the sun in front of a window just as he likes, and the little one is purring on a fleece cloth in a bathroom. I wish I've read the step-by-step articles on how to introduce a new cat to the old one. But I didn't. I thought they would just start playing, you know, the two glad kittens and stuff. So I guess my question is, is it too tardy now? Are they bound to battle forever. Should I try to reintroduce them and how soon and how? I also examined the little one and didn't find any scratches or bleeding from bites, so maybe the older one was not biting that difficult. Plus in between the fighting they ate from separate bowls which were two inches from each other and there was no hostility gift. But then they started with the chasing and holding down and biting again. Arghhh. Please help! I would hate to have to give the new one away because my old one would not accept him, just because of my stupidity! :( What can I do to keep the situation at this point? And also, one of my friends told me to use some nice of herb that the cats like, like rubbing this herb on both of them to make them like each other. Do you think this'll work? THANK YOU!!! The thing that bothered me the most about their fighting was that the little one kept meowing in a very high pitched voice like he has been in pain or something when the older one was biting on him.

Resolved Question: Weird problem with dog biscuits...?
Sometimes when I buy dog biscuits, I buy the ones from the bulk section in the pet store. My dog likes them and they are cheap. Plus I'm not giving him that many, so they don't have to be super healthy, either. There are four colors. Red, Yellow, Green, and Orange. He only eats the green ones, and rarely the other three. I know it's odd, and I know dogs don't give a crap what color their food is. Could it be certain additives they do/don't put in that color of biscuit that they don't/do in the other three colors? Because when I give him a green biscuit, he always eats it. He rarely eats the other three colors, though. And when I hold out two different colored treats, he always chooses the green one if it's available. So what is it? Why does he like greens better? To Mary S- I would NOT eat a dog biscuit! Unless I am trying to keep my dog's life (don't know where I got that but anyway) I am NOT eating a dog biscuit!!

Voting Question: What could be wrong with my cat?
She was a stray. We recently took her in. She has been having every sorts of problems. First, she had a icy. Then she had blood in her urine. She has had blood work, which came back normal. She has also had x-rays which were inconclusive. She has a healthy appetite, but only poos about once a day. She is on amoxicilin for two weeks and a wet food diet of Urinary SO. When she's up and you pet her, she nice of walks in circles and sways with her left foot, almost falling over. She also goes up on her tippy toes. As well she is a very vocal cat. We've only had her for like ten days. Basically no one seems to know what is wrong with her. Could these every be unrelated events, or could it signal a greater problem?

Voting Question: Can vaccinations kill your pet?
Today, my sister and I took our 1 year 4 month old Pug to the veterinarian for her vaccinations. There, she received her rabies shot, DHLPPC annual booster, and bordatella annual booster. The doctor warned us that she would be lethargic and sleepy early tonight and "drunk for the new year." He also gave her a physical exam and said that she was perfectly healthy aside from being a little over weight. Once we got back home, our Pug wouldn't hop out of the car and follow my sister like she normally would in her most enthusiastic way. She laid on the back seat and watched as we got out. When we called her and tried to receive her to follow us, she finally did and slowly made it to the front door where she suddenly stopped and laid back down. This is very unusual behavior for her (she's almost always excited). My sister and I assumed the drugs simply kicked in a bit early and decided to pick her up and put her onto her bed so that she could relax. We then left to lunch for about an hour and when we came back, our pug was dead. My simple question is, can any of the shots I named kill a pet? Is it the possibility of an overdose? Please help. I'm only looking for a reason to why my pug is dead when she was perfectly healthy this morning.

Open Question: How do I safely handle a ferrel kitten?
I caught a young kitten (about 7 wks old) yesterday, and I have been working with him. He is slowly opening up and becoming quite friendly. But I worried about catching something from him, I work in a hospital so I need to be safe. I have an appointment at the vet tomorrow to receive him checked out but meanwhile I have been petting him and handling him for short periods of time. I have washed my hands well after each time I handle him, his skin appears normal and healthy, maybe a little dirty and some fleas but no obvious skin conditions. I have two dogs in the home and I want to make sure they don't receive anything from the cat, the kitten is confined and separated from them but I just wanted to know if there was anything else I could do to protect the dogs and myself until tomorrow. I have NOT been bitten by the kitten and only scratched once, I washed the scratch well. Any advice? I tend to worry about these things alot and any feedback would be really helpful! Thanks

Resolved Question: My male blue Betta....?
....is about 1 1/2 yrs old. His tank mates are angels and barbs. I have been snowed away from home for about a week and I just arrived home this evening. My tank temp dropped from 82(f) to 74(f). Everybody seems very healthy and active still. No sign of Ick. But My Male Betta right side of his abdomen is swollen. He was very glad to look me. I added warm(er) h2o to the tank (warming up slowly, dont worry) due to evaporation. I offered a very tiny amount of food after the water change just to make sure every their appetites were good, and they every munched very well. Betta activity is perfectly fine. any suggestions? I have to leave town again tomorrow, but I have pet sitters who stay at the home who are plenty capable of medicating or monitoring behavior.

Resolved Question: My cat thinks our basement is her litter box!!!?
My tuxedo cat thinks that our basement is her new litter box! We found her when she was about 5 weeks old and she was abandoned. She was really unhealthy and so tiny. Now she is about 2 years old and she is healthy and she has grown to about a normal size. She can fit into her litter box, but I guess it's a little tight. We placed a bigger litter box in the basement, hoping she would go in there instead of on the floor, but she doesn't. Also, last summer we got a dachshund and the dachshund goes on the floor but still gets attention and gets petted. Could our cat have learned bad behaviors from the dachshund? Please help me!!! Idk why she is going on the carpet and how do I cease her??? She hasn't always gone on the floor! This just started about a couple of weeks ago.

Open Question: A squirrel in my backyard covered in pink lumps?
Just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong with this squirrel I just saw in my backyard? Although it didn't look starved and where it still had fur it was dark black and healthy looking, this squirrel was covered in tiny pinkish lumps - mostly around its head and neck. There were a few patches of fur missing as well. I have pets that go outside and I'd hate for them to catch something series. I've never seen a squirrel looks like this - has anyone else?

Open Question: Want to get to know a little about me in a poem?
Original Rainbow Me Rainbow Prefer to be an original Instead of trying to be like others If I'm like others That's only by coincidence For I take joy in being original For a lot of the ways of today Doesn't suit me I prefer long, floor length skirts Or close enough to it Than the ones that don't even reach my knees I like regular drinking glasses But I like drinking out of jars even better My idea of a good time Does not involve getting drunk Or getting high I don't even smoke I like the company of people's canines But I prefer my pet felines I like a good magazine article or a book But knowing the Good Book takes a higher priority to me Though I admit I am not as good about reading As I need be I, in the autumn Came to like healthy eating Over the not-so-healthy eating But a recent sickness got me Falling off the bandwagon The youth at heart Enjoys Legos And Slapjack As much as little kids do I drink so rare I prefer sweet tea And juice And water Over soda And Orchata is my choice When at Mexican restaurants I'm not much a tv person I tend to only watch one hour a week If even that Not counting sometimes watching sports I don't do movies Not for some time Unless I watch with others. But I do adore myself my Sega Genesis And my Pacman and Miss Pacman joysticks. Thanks to every who take the time to read this, and please give me your feedback! Have a wonderful day! :) Intriguing? Resolved Question: Female Suriname Boa Size?
I have a 7 month old female Suriname red tail boa, so I was told, not positive exactly her age. I was told 5 months by one person at the pet store and 7 months by two other people working there. Anyways, I have had her for one month and she is eating tiny f/t rats (no bigger than the widest part of her body) and feeding every Friday. I have already taken her to the vets and she is healthy. My question is, do you think she is an over average size boa? One month ago she was 35" long and weighed 12 ounces. Now she is 40" long and weighs 19 ounces and just had her second shed in one month! (both perfect sheds). The only thing I can think of is that she is older than 8 months and at the pet store they were below feeding her (but she didn’t look to skinny or malnourished and the vet thought she looked healthy too, or could I have a really big boa on my hands, which I’m glad either way. And is it normal to have two perfect sheds in one month time? Thanks, Mike

Voting Question: How do you feel about SUGAR GLIDERS as pets?
Im just curious on the views of other people about the pet trade on sugar gliders. I do possess sugar gliders, but there not my "pets" I rescue them from people who have no clue what there doing! I would adore to look them in australia, gliding across the tree tops, and being free of cages but its too lait for these guys :( instead I try to simulate what habitat they would have in the wild, I have a very big rec room in my home that I converted to a suggie paradice, its wonderful, it has live trees, a real rock wall that expands across a whole wall, a costom waterfall, theres even a run that gose outside for the summer months. The room has VERY high seelings so theres loads of room to glide, i have noticed that they are MUCH happier now then they were in there cages. I do believe they should be in there natural habitat and I have simulated there climate as best as possible, im just wondering what other peoples views are on them being pets? (PS: I know people are going to say "if there glad and healthy there fine" but dont you think they should be where they belong? gliding across trees, being free, sure yours are glad but they have never had the chance to live the life of a wild glider so they dont know on what there missing out on.) im not asking HOW TO possess A SUGAR GLIDER im asking your opinion on having them as pets!!! are you agenst them being pets or do you LIKE it? im also planning on moving to Australia once im old enough, I think its a beautiful place to live! maby if I move over there I will receive a ermit and bring my suggs akong with me, if i did I would build a HUGE outdoor habitat so they could interact with other gliders! maby, if it were possible I could rehabilitate them into the wild, that woudl be the coolest thing ever.

Resolved Question: My cat is only affectionate in the morning. What does this mean?
In afternoons and at night, she runs from me and my fiance. She doesn't want to be held or picked up. But in the morning, I always wake up with her next to me...purring and begging for pets. And she'll stay with me and be cuddly until I receive up, and then she's scared of me again. I have 3 other cats...she was the most recent addition to my cat family. She gets along fine with the other cats, nothing unusual. I found her on the streets...was a stray, as a kitten. She's had every her shots and is healthy. What's going on? There's always food in their bowls in the morning (I make sure they're filled throughout the day and before I go to bed). Open Question: Why does my cat have a lump on his back left leg?
My cat has a lump on his back left leg. He was just in the vet a week ago and the lump was not there nor did they mention anything about him not being healthy. He is only 4 months old. What could this be? He has to go back in for another of the regular shots. He just had his rabies vac. Could it be something from that? He is going in again for another shot in two weeks but I don't know if I should take him in sooner because of the lump. Anyone have any ideas why he would have this? They did say he had worms and gave him medicine for it. He also is taking more medicine for it on Monday for the last dose. I am just concerned because it grew within days. He is not showing any symptoms nor is he an outdoor cat. He is the only pet we have. Doesn't really make sense to me. Any ideas?

Open Question: Is it alright for a kitten (young cat) to stay in garage?
I have a feeling the kitten may have been set out by someone on the highway (I'm about 100 yards from the highway) and it found it's way to me. I'm also pretty certain it may have had some nice of "run-in" with another animal or predator. It's not injured in any way but it appears to be pretty frightened at times. It seems to be a pretty loving kitten (outside of being nervous at times) and I initially placed food on the front porch when I first saw it. However, I worried that it might be too icy for it on the first night it was here so I brought it into my garage. My parents (who live a few miles away) happened to have a litter box and some left over litter (from a cat of ours that died a few months ago at the age of 22). I put the litter box in the garage as well as the food and have also built a tiny home in the garage next to the litter box and food and have placed some heat pads and a pet bed inside. I can receive the kitten to arrive inside the home but it seems somewhat intent on staying in the garage as it will usually go to the kitchen door and wait until I let it out - the garage is enclosed so I'm comfortable letting it stay out there as it remains away from predators, etc. Everything that I can think of that is hazardous (anti-freeze, etc) is inside a closet door in the garage that stays closed unless I'm specifically needing something. Before getting ready for work in the mornings, I have been bringing the kitten inside and pulling my truck out of the garage to heat it and closing the door in the process. Then I got back in the front door and let the kitten back into the garage where it stays until I return home. My questions are: 1.) Can the kitten grow into a healthy adult with just dry food or should I give it a mixture of dry / wet food? 2.) Is the garage an acceptable place for it to stay if that continues to remain it's preference? 3.) Any other tips / suggestions for raising the kitten? (I have already scheduled an appointment with the veterinarian and intend of getting its shots and scheduling an appointment for it to be fixed). 4.) Any suggestions for a good kitten toy? I have given it a stuffed bear (in its home in the garage) and a few tiny plush balls (football, tennis, baseball). It seems as though it has only bonded with the bear and the football (in fact, it will carry the football from place to place in its mouth)... I'm looking for something that can keep it active while I am away and cannot play with it.

Resolved Question: People who know a lot about BEARDED DRAGONS? help please :)?
Okay so I just got 2 baby bearded dragons yesterday. They have lived together their entire lives and are glad together, so that is not a problem and they live in a long 40-gallon glass terrarium with a screen top. I got them really tiny crickets and feed them about 20-25 a day and then switch between those and veggies/fruits on the other days. The people at the pet store had been doing that, so I figured that is what's best for my babies. Oh, and I also sprinkle the food with Calcium powder. They have the every spectrum light and heat lamp. Here is where I am confused. I use Aspen (what they had at the pet store and they have been living in) but people online have been saying not to use loose substrate. My beardies sometimes receive it stuck when they are eating, but they just spit it out. What's the best substrate? Sand can grow bacteria easily I've heard. Also, the pet store owner told me to feed them diced spinach and bananas. Forums have been saying no to spinach because the beardies can't digest it, but I thought the greener the better with veggies for them? I know they are digesting my the amount of poop already in their terrarium. What's the best diet? Also, what is the best temperature for them? We have the heat lamp closer to one end so if they receive hot they can go to the other end of the tank to chilly off. The pet store had it at 83 degrees F, but every these forums are talking about low 100s! I have one of those cheap thermometers, but those obviously can be off my 20 degrees. What do I need to do about this? I just want my babies to live long and healthy lives, but I am getting every kinds of answers from different sources, and need to know what has worked for you guys. Please help me out :) Thanks! I meant 60-gallon terrarium, I don't know what I was thinking. :) So yeah, it's big. Please help me out! Thanks for every your help... So paper towels? That seems weird to me. I was reading they are the best for baby ones to live on. I have also heard about special reptile tiles and carpeting and turf and the like... anyone know about that stuff?

Voting Question: How can I befriend my shy pet rats?
I have 2 female, seven-week-old, rats from Pet-smart. They have been with me for about two days, healthy and active. However, they are very shy. When I approach the cage, they hide in their home. Even baiting them with cheese or yogurt barely gets their heads out. I have yet to take them out of the cage as I do not want to force it and scare them. Should I give them more time alone or start handling them? Thanks everyone!

Voting Question: I've decided to become a vegetarian! My mom dosen't like it?
I just told my mom that for the new year I want to become a vegetarian. After seeing a video of the horrors of the meat industry and their cruelty to animals, I can't stand the thought of eating another animal. I have pet's and I would never eat them. Well when I told my mom she freaked out. She was like "You'll loose every your iron!" "I'm not taking you to the hospital when you pass out" "I'm not going to spend more money just because you want to become a vegetarian" I tried to tell her why but she really wasn't listening I told her also that as I become a vegetarian I will gradually become a vegan and she was like "No, if you become a vegan I'm not buying food for you" I need help convincing my mom that it's healthy and okay to become a vegetarian. Help? Thanks I'm a big health/nutrition guy, and she knows that. Thanks I think I'll make a list of foods and create a vegetarian schedule and show her that it dosen't cost much and that it IS healthy.

Resolved Question: Questions about a hedgehog for a pet in college?
Lots of questions. 1. Would they make a decent pet to have as a college student? Meaning that I will have lots of people in the home on weekends and I don't have a hell of a lot of money to spend on upkeep (buying the initial essentials is fine but do they require lots of vet visits and is their diet expensive?) 2. Would cat food be decent diet for them? I've read that this would be alright but I'm not sure whether to trust the website I read this on. 3. Would it be alright to have only one or would two be better? I have time to spend with them but being a college student I'm not always home and I don't know how much attention they require to stay glad and healthy. 4. Honestly, how bad to they odor even with proper upkeep of their cages? Like compared to hamsters or mice. 5. Is alright to hold them frequently? Once you've had them for a while would they be used to you and not hurt you or be afraid of you? 6. I read about some thing they do where they cover themselves in saliva... what is the deal with that? Does it actually happen and how often would it happen? 7. What is it like to have them as pets? Give me a general idea. I'm interested in getting an exotic pet. I've found hedgehogs and sugar gliders to be really interesting but can't decide which would be better for me as a pet if either. Please let me know if you have any legitimate opinion on which would be better.

Resolved Question: Where can I buy free-range pet food?
I have a cat, and I know that feeding it vegetarian food would not be healthy, so I'm wondering.... Where can you buy free-range pet food, or what are some brand names that are free-range? Which ones aren't free-range? Thanks!

Voting Question: Unusual Discharge From Pet Rat?
Heya, I was feeding my boys this morning when I noticed one of them had some dark staining on his bum, just below the tail, which looks a bit like dry blood. I managed to pick him up and have a look at him but I can't decipher whether its blood or just poo staining (which would be a concern anyway to be honest). He's been eating and drinking normally and doesn't seem any different in himself. every four of my rats are bright and healthy with little or no porpyrin discharge around the nose/eyes so I can't think it would be anything to do with that. I'm just looking in the cage now but there's no runny poop or anything....has anyone ever experienced anything similar? The vets is quite a far steer away so I want to make sure its not a untrue alarm or something I could treat myself before I take him down. I was also planning on giving them every a bath today but do you perhaps think I should leave him out of that? Thanks for any help on this....

Resolved Question: Can a dog get a bird sick? ?
I have a chihuahua, who is 3 years old. I have a parakeet that I have had for a week. My parakeets poops have been healthy and normal. Yesterday my dog had a bad case of the runs. She was in my room where my bird is and came in every so often and left. I picked up my dog and then was holding her when i was talking to my bird. I put my dog down and pet my bird and then left the room. Now today my dog is feeling better but my parakeet had some runny poop. Does this mean my dog gave my bird whatever she had. Or is it coincedence? My bird only had one runny poop. So I don't think it is serious.
